In this video, David teaches you how to use pranayama (yoga breathing exercises) to move energy through your body, clear out energetic blockages and help you feel lighter, less inhibited and more relaxed. You will be doing deep abdominal breathing, the cleansing breath, kapalabhati, retentions, yogic locks (bandhas) and meditation. If you're looking to progress with pranayama, the class that is meant to go before this class is David's Pranayama Yoga To Wake Up.

Loved this class!!!! Straightforward and concise, just what I needed to get me going this morning! Excellent breathe work, and explanation of the concept!

As this is a beginning class, could I have a bit more explanation on the fast exhalation technique? It starts with a "half breath in" so is that for every one of the subsequent short breaths thereafter? So, like a mini inhale and exhale for each one? Thank you

That's right. Because you're not actually breathing in (you're forcing the breath out, and after that the breath moves in on its own) you're not taking a full breath in. It's impossible to say if it's a half breath or 1/3, but it's in that vicinity.

I've also had some trouble with this breathing technique. When I'm doing this belly-pumping technique, I find that after maybe 20 breaths I feel the urge to open my mouth. Is the idea to only use your belly muscle and avoid purposefully breathing in with your lungs?

Thanks David!

Great class. Never fails to ground me and give me the energy to face what's up ahead. Thanks so much for all your wonderful classes, especially the ones in the section "Yoga for Anxiety/Stress" have been a huge support lately and I keep coming back to them frequently.
