What You'll Experience

The Yoga4Strength series features three progressive classes - meaning the classes build on one another. The first class gets you started and understanding why strength training is important and how to get going. The next two classes up the intensity of the exercises and encourage you to dig deeper. Each class is 60 minutes.

We suggest starting with the first class and use it until you start to feel stronger and more confident with the exercises. From there you can try the second class and approach it the same way - as you start to feel like you have a better understanding of the movements you can move onto the final class.

This is Melissa’s signature class that she’s taught in-person since 2005 and is super excited to bring it to DoYogaWithMe. Adding strength training to your yoga is a great way to build up strength and capacity. In these unconventional yoga classes we’ll be weaving strength work throughout our practice. As always with Melissa’s classes, expect to have a giggle as you try some new and novel movements.

So wonderful to return to Melissa's class after 2 years away following back surgery. Don't know why I waited so long.

This series was excellent! It makes so much sense to combine yoga with strength training and Melissa does this in such a welcoming and accessible way. I plan to go through the series regularly.
Thank you!

This sequence was spectacular, wow! The progression was so well done. Your gentle invitation to challenge was perfect. I am curious if you would no longer be worried about knees extending over the ankles in a pose like Warrior II? Thanks again for some great classes.

I love this series! So good to see you again Melissa! I greatly appreciate how honest you are about how hard this can be - it definitely is for me. I'm just getting back to strength training after a long (decade) away, it's encouraging/reassuring to know this stuff is hard for everyone. And, Melissa's approach of "try it, if it doesn't feel good, you can change it" feels like a revelation! Always thought I had to do things 'just so' - if I picked up a 20lb weight I had to use it to the end no matter what. But Melissa's approach is opening my eyes that I do what pushes my body but also feels right. Super happy to have this series as a strength training resource. Thank you Melissa!!

Loving this series! A great combo of yoga and strength, which I very much need, delivered by Melissa’s gentle and humble approach. Would love to see more of these style of classes.

Melissa's goal is achieved here with a broad strength routine and accompanying stretches. I seem to get to yoga and cardio, but weights often fall to the bottom of my list. This is a really helpful option, and Melissa's skill, cheer, humility and planning is here and in all her classes. Thank you Melissa for filling in the curricula! All three vids are in my rotation now.

I didn't know what to expect here with using weights but I really enjoyed it. Very different from my normal practise but variety is the spice of life and this worked very well for me.
Thank you Melissa for sharing this, I look forward to round two!
Wishing you a full and speedy recovery from your injury by the way.

Personally, I loved this class. I'm loving the idea of combining strength training with yoga. Melissa did an amazing job of melding the two. She maintains the connection to the origins of yogic practice while offering the addition of resistance training --- which research shows is so important to an aging body. Thank you!

There is a lot of explanation and “downtime” so this is not a nearly an hour of weightlifting. I really enjoyed the sun salutations in between sets. And I loved the encouragement to use a little heavier weights!

I loved this! Being of an age, and having done minimal work with weights, I chose to do it the first time with the lowest weights I have, 4 lb. I will up it to 5 and 6 next time, but cannot imagine using the heavier weights Melissa uses, which is fine! Thanks for incorporating weight training, which I don't love doing with yoga, which I do!
