Pushing the beginner level slightly to prepare you for our next Pilates class in this series. Full body with strength, mobility, stability and stretch.
Will there be a "next Pilates class in this series" or is that description from a different series? I didn't mind the class but wondering why an intermediate Pilates class is called "Back to the Basics."
Really liked this class. Came to it by filtering all classes for Style and Level, so knew what to expect, and my expectations were met. Am not terribly familiar with Pilates terminology and breathing but figured it out easily enough with Kathi's clear instructions.
I don't want to think about what this class's intermediate or advanced level looks like. If you are new to Pilates the use of the breath is totally different from yoga - I don't get it. Also, the abdominal work, for instance, lying flat on your back and rolling up and down is challenging to say the least. I'm pretty sure the use of a towel or blanket wouldn't help me...
Lasted five minutes then had to stop as, like others have said, too much unfamiliar cueing. Found it frustrating. And I've done pilates before! Maybe starting on the mat lying down where we can't see you easily didn't help. Sorry.
Back to Basics ? Not if one doesn't do pilates. I am here for yoga and have no experience with pilates. For basics (of any kind) one needs more precise descriptions of these moves and their components, please.
After getting out of practice this is exactly what I needed to remind myself how my muscles work. It was a little challenging (as I tend to have more muscle memory in yoga than pilates) so I'm sure I'll be coming back for more :)
As I read all the previous comments, I felt I have to add mine. Kathi's class is different to all the other yoga classes on this platform. I liked the different and new poses but actually I couldn't enjoy it as I wanted to, because I had to keep always an eye on the screen. Usually I just have to listen to the instructions and can focus on the poses.
But again, I appreciate the new inputs and will definitely do the class again and than for sure will enjoy it!
Thanks Kahi.
I’ve never done Pilates and, even tho this was a beginning class, I found The cuing (imprint, marbles, grapes) confusing. I also needed more information to protect my back. The teacher seems lovely.
This class would be easier for me if I had classes with Kathi before or if I watched the video before the class, but frankly, I am not sure who has time for the latter. The idea behind a series of classes taught by different instructors is a great one, however, some instructors need to take into account the unfamiliarity of most viewers with how they normally teach their class. This class was not as physically challenging for me as was the pace of instructions. I found breathing cues to be confusing and hard to follow. Thank you for teaching this class and I hope that our comments do help improve to plan the future challenges and courses!
Fun little workout. It's not so different from yoga (terminology and focus is different but it's really not that difficult), don't be put off by the bad reviews.
The instruction felt too fast for someone unfamiliar with Pilates... not sure why this class is part of the yoga challenge. Though there are similarities, Pilates is not yoga.
I had forgotten how much I loved Kathi's pilates prompting during practice. She is so clear and gentle, yet I definitely had a wobbly belly now! perfect
Pilates is very different from yoga, so I do recommend watching the video first. This is a nice change and I appreciate trying Pilates again. Nothing works the pelvic core like Pilates !
If you have never taken a Pilates class, or it has been a while, I would suggest watching this video first to see how the sequences done while lying down are performed.
This was tough for me to follow. I don't know pilates so I'm not familiar with the cues. Therefore, I had to keep looking at the screen throughout which broke up the feeling of continuity. This class probably feels wonderful if you know what you're doing and don't have to break out of what you're doing to see what the teacher is asking you to do next. But, since this is part of the 2022 challenge, I took it as a challenge to try something new and feel like a total beginner again.
Oh! This was lovely! I absolutely love these classes Kathi, thanks so much for your authenticity! And such a great complement for my yoga practice <3

I didn't know what I was doing and it messed me up in a good way. felt feelings I've never felt. good stability work I need more of. def will check out more of her classes.
This is a fun class that packs a lot into 25 minutes. If you're doing it as part of the Power Into 2022 Challenge and haven't done any Pilates before, you might benefit from watching it through first or watching one of the Pilates Fundamentals videos on the site.
Thanks Kathi!
As a reminder, the challenge isn't just yoga classes. :) I have never done pilates before, but I found this class to be terrific. Even as an experienced yogi, I liked the great core work, and the class is something I enjoyed very much. It's always nice to mix things up every now and then. Also, it's given me the inspiration to try more of Kathi's pilates classes.
Like manyothers I have no pilates experience. I thought she was a good instructor and glad DYWM brought me some exposure to Pilates. That said, I still like yoga better :)

Hi, I nearly skipped this class, so glad I didn't, loved it.
Lasted five minutes then had to stop as, like others have said, too much unfamiliar cueing. Found it frustrating. And I've done pilates before! Maybe starting on the mat lying down where we can't see you easily didn't help. Sorry.
Fun!
It would be helpful if the description of the class said it was pilates.

Just perfect to start my day. First time with this instructor, she was wonder! I will definitely do other classes of hers.

Lovey manner and perfect relatively gentle awakening of body.
Just right for me this morning, thank you!
I thought this was a yoga series. What is imprinting? What is peel? I have no idea what she's talking about. Moving on to day 5... 🤷♀️
I rarely rate, but this class is underrated for sure.

Great class!
This was fabulous. I usually practice yoga so this was a wonderful introduction to pilates and has encouraged me to explore Pilates more. Thank you!

I loved it! Very soft on the body and nice core work!
challenging and I feel the benefits - need to learn about imprinting and the grape though! Excellent session
Thanks Kathi!

Not a flow class at all so wasn't expecting a Pilates class according to the Power Into 2022 Challenge description.

I've not done very much Pilates before and this was a lovely little addition to the Power into 2022 Challenge, thanks Kathi!
Really enjoyed this Pilates class - I found the explanations clear and easy to follow.
It's a very long time since I've done Pilates so it was challenging - but Kathi's explanations very clear which helped
Really enjoyed doing a pilates session, especially strengthening the core. Great to mix things up a bit :)) Thank you x
Simply did not enjoy, not even a little bit. Very hard to follow, cueing wasn’t enough for me.

Yep, have not done Pilates in years but it felt great! Thanks
Pilates, huh? That wasn't so bad. In fact, it was lovely. Thank you.
Kathi is a good instructor. I always benefit from her Pilates but I do prefer yoga. : )
that was fun and definitely challenging!
I'm also a person who almost never practices Pilates, but I very much enjoyed this class.
Give it a try!
Kathi made Pilates so fun and accessible! Even though I typically stick to yoga, I really enjoyed and benefitted from this class!
So happy I read the comments. Kept my laptop handy and moved it as I went so I was able to follow. Lovely class and I just don't do enough pilates.
This was surprisingly challenging and fun! I enjoyed the exposure to pilates esp as part of the 2022 Challenge. 🌈
Thank you Kathi, that was my first class with you as instructor, and for pilates. It was very enjoyable.
