Yoga for Anxiety

Beginner I

Anxiety can be a difficult emotion to let go of. It requires a lot of self-reflection, opening up to vulnerability, an understanding of what anxiety feels like in your body and how to move it through. David spent many years plagued with anxiety and this class brings together everything he has learned through pranayama, meditation, movement and yoga that has helped him move through it. Thank you David, that was great and I was able to let go of some anxieties I have had all day. I loved the pushing from the belly move--a new one for me. Normally I do not like having music but this was very soft and it did not interfere with your voice. It added a calm feeling at the end when you stopped speaking.

During this class something inside me really moved away, because when I turned down the knob of guilt, urgency to have things done, fear....I suddenly started crying! couldnt stop! and on the following movements, it stopped. So thank you sooo much. I feel much relieved.

Hello David I'm ambrosia thank you for all the guidance, I have a deep anxiety that conflicts with my epilepsy and this class has helped me control the anxiety within my core and help control and lessen the seizures that occur and wake me up during my R.E.M. sleep as well as during the day when I have a deep physical feeling of anxiety that weighs heavy on me I literally forget to breathe. I want to say thank you very much for everything you do.

I just wanted to say thank you, David. I am a 43-year-old man with Asperger Syndrome and have suffered from anxiety, depression, anger, and worry for as long as I can remember. This practice made me feel wonderful afterward, with a real sense of peace and emotion. As I sat cross legged at the end, a shed a tear, overwhelmed by the sensation I was left with.

Having 'dabbled' in yoga, on and off over the years, I have made the commitment to practice daily now, each morning, thanks to this practice and website. So thank you.

I have struggled with anxiety my entire life! Healthy lifestyle changes and a regular yoga practice have made a world of difference! But occasionally I will still experience overwhelming feelings of worry, fear, and uncontrollable anxiety. This has been the case here recently for me. I went searching for a class today without any particular outcome in mind, and this class found me. I began class after reading a daily reflection in Meditations from the Mat regarding aparigraha. A sankalpa also came to me at the beginning of class... "I am free" and by the end I could definitely feel it! Savasana brought tears, which I feel like were a much needed release for me! I will be returning to this class regularly! Thank you so much, David! You are an excellent teacher!

I love David's pranayama meditations. Whenever I do pranayama based meditation, I always have the thought 'oh this is easy' it isn't like doing my regular Vinyasa, but I am continually amazed at the effect pranayama meditation has on my body. If you do Vinyasa do not count pranayama out of a well balanced practice because it can be as impactful if not more so in many ways. Thanks David.

It seems my life revolves around (what seem to be) unending bouts of crippling anxiety. I've never thought of it as a blockage or stagnation especially of emotions. Found myself incredibly moved by the class and grateful for a new understanding of how my mind and body hold tension and how I can start to release these feelings of worry, fear and shame. Great for those moments when you get so lost in your problems - this is grounding and although of course the class won't take your issues away, your attitude is much improved afterwards and you feel stronger and more self accepting. Will be doing this again!

This is so beautiful David. I have experienced anxiety and depression for a very long while, throughout most of my life. The past two years have been exceptionally difficult, and I have multiple professionals supporting me and working with me to heal. After doing your yoga class, I feel more peaceful and grounded than I have in over a year. A quite a bit loopy, I might add!!! I so appreciate the care and compassion that you exude in this practice.
