Tune Into You

Intermediate II

In this intermediate flow, Fiji invites you to use sensation and breath to tune into the moment and into yourself. The steady pace and attention to the subtle body will allow your mind to sift through distractions and anchor your awareness in your movements and your breath.

I liked this class. It was both straightforward and a bit challenging in some of the shapes and transitions you go through. Not very much upper body work but the shoulders do get attention with movement. Lots of leg holds and openers.

I found this class very full of words. So much that I really couldn’t concentrate on the yoga. Too much of one type of posture that Fiji likes so much - bending forward over the thighs.

Today was the 10th or so time I have revisited this class, and it's always amazing! Every time my ego starts taking over, I love revisiting this class to remind myself that I can always learn, slow down, and find poses that challenge me in the best way possible.

I do have a question about form- in the low and high lunges where we have our hands at the back of the heart and we are pushing into the back of our head with the forearms to lengthen the sides of the body, it is very difficult for me to not let my ribcage pop out at the same time. Any suggestions?

Thank you as always! I have been a DYWM member for 6 years, and it has been such a gift.

Hi Claire,

So happy this a favorite! Yes, gently pushing the head and forerms towards eachother. The way I help to lessen the flairing front body is to imgine my collar bones softly dropping, my heart softy sinking. This downward central movement is then countered by the length of the sides and back body.

This was something different for me but I really enjoyed it. Every time I get to see a new instructor, I take away a few new things and incorporate these into my own practice when I feel like just being by myself. I love that leg stretch just before corpse pose. I’ll use that.

Wow...challenging at a very measured pace. I love this class. Nothing fancy, just straight up core and control. I'm referring to my mind. Thank you Fiji and DYWM

Thank you for this beautiful sequence, dear Fiji.
I feel like I have strengthened and nourished my body, mind and soul with this practise.
It reminds me a little bit of your Slow, Steady and Strong sequence, also one of my favourites of your's.
a big heartful yogi hug and thank you :)

This sequence is so calming, I love the pace. Plus, the 21-day Get Strong challenge must be working for me because I can finally lift and hold myself up off the ground at the end! So proud of myself, and thank you Fiji!

I found this class very challenging and it pushed me (in a good way). I backed off some poses as I did this in the morning (I think I'll do this in early evening next time when I'm not so stiff) and my body was still waking up. Thanks Fiji for a great class!

Wow! I was so much into listening to my breath and feeling my body that the 50 minutes flew by. This practice is what my body needed to release stress, my spirit to trust and my mind to remain calm. Thank you!!!

I loved this session and found it really challenging. Fiji's instruction was patient and on point.

My quads and hamstrings were on fire at points during this session and I needed to stop to shake them out sometimes. So I can get a sense for whether I'm working the poses correctly, does anyone else who has done this think that that was the intent? Regardless, very happy with the class as it was challenging and most certainly got my heart-rate up.

Yes, I also found this pretty intense at times - definitely felt shaking and heat in my quads and hips. The subject line of my comment after doing the practice was "Call the fire department!" :-)
Personally, I find it easier to "tune into" myself during less intense classes. Perhaps the goal is to be able to learn to tune into myself when things get physically uncomfortable/intense and when my mind gets distracted w/ thoughts (or prayers for the pose to end! lol)

I am happy that you enjoyed the class and the challenge. This one was created for those yogis out there who have a fairly high yoga stamina. While the level was set with that group in mind, the message really is to tune into you, and take each moment and pose as they come. I find that for many of us we are over working in a pose, which may contribute to that burn you encountered. A great question when you get into a pose is where can I soften, what effort is skillful and essential and what effort is not necessary?

Thank you Fiji! I'm recovering from a running injury and have finally been given the green light to return to vinyasa yoga after more than 2 months, my body has been all kinds of confused without my daily running and yoga so this was more than welcome. Exactly what I needed!

What a wonderful surprise! I generally steer class of Fiji's classes, finding them too rushed for my liking. This one was perfect for me. Perfect pace, excellent cueing. I will have to try some more of Fiji's classes - maybe I just wasn't ready before :)

I am happy that you gave it a try! Our practice changes and shifts constantly and before we know it we are capable of doing things that at one time seemed impossible. It is good to check in and challenge yourself every so often. I also do have quite a variety of classes, some faster pace than others. The new classes I am releasing this month will be at a pace you will appreciate.

How fascinating! You find Fiji rushes!? I normally steer away from her classes because I find them too slow: too much talking and time spent in each pose; I usually go to Tracey Noseworthy as I love her pace and dialogue. But I appreciate all of Fiji’s wisdom and insight and it’s always a challenge to my mind to take her class without getting frustrated and listening to her words and holding the poses.
Anyways, just so interesting how different people and their views are! I really enjoyed reading your comment.

Thanks Fiji for an intriguing new peak pose that will allude me for awhile I am certain. This was a fantastic hip opener for me and desperately needed after some longer, hilly runs. The sequences were structured so thoughtfully that often my body felt it's way into the next transition before you qued it. I think this speaks to how well you listened to your own body as you built this flow. Since I know you are working on your own awareness, I say congrats your focus and dedication is paying off. Delightful and challenging intermediate yoga session. LOVED IT.

I am happy that you found some space in your hips from this class, being a runner myself I find daily hip openers very helpful! I have learned so much in my advanced training this year, it is starting to come through in my most recent classes, so I appreciate you noticing and the feedback!

This was an intense practice for me. Mini-infernos were burning in my hips, hip flexors, quads; my legs were shaking; my mind was telling me to quit.
But I breathed my way through it and experienced many poses which I hadn't before seen or tried. That said, I was especially grateful for savasana! :-)
Thanks for encouraging me to push myself beyond what I find comfortable.

Another wonderful, thoughtful practice. Always exactly what I need. The focus on self and recognising what 'me' is is perfect. Thank you Fiji!

On a separate note - I think there's a weird edit. The second side the twisted reverse warrior pose is in their twice?
