Heads up, plus-sized buds - this class is all twists and folds so it was quite frustrating for me (the opposite of relaxing before bed).

This lesson was anything but relaxing for me. It required far more flexibility than I have. With legs straight in front of me, I need to sit 6 inches off the floor just to get my upper body vertical. I certainly can't fold any farther forward. The other poses were equally inaccessible. Very discouraging. Are beginners really expected to be able to do this?

Hi there. What I’ve leaned over my 2.5 years as a yogi is that beginners can mean different things to different students. You can be a beginner student for a very long time so you need to give yourself a bit of a break. After 1.5 years of doing yoga regularly I think I’m an intermediate One but I still struggle with balancing on one leg.

I would recommend you start with the Absolute Beginners 6 week program on DYWM. This will make you feel more satisfied. I also learned that using props, blocks etc. Doesn’t mean that you are challenging. I’ve seen many teachers use a block under their bum and other supports as we all have different shaped bodies, different ages, and different levels of flexibility. Don’t give up.

Thanks for the encouragement, MaryRose. I've done the Absolute Beginners program and I'm working my way through Guy's Slow Flow Challenge. A few poses along the way have been beyond my ability, which I expected and have accepted. But in this class I wasn't been able to do any of the poses, even with my butt propped 6 inches off the floor. It's labeled Beginner I "Yoga for Seniors" and is described as something relaxing to do before bed. Based on my experience with other DYWM classes, I think that rating is very misleading. Perhaps it should come with a warning that it's appropriate only for advanced yogis or those beginners who are preternaturally flexible.

Very relaxing - love your lessons. It is great to have them in a structured 14 day challenge - takes a lot of the need to try and find a lesson amongst so many. Thanks
