Ooh, that was lovely, thank you Guy. I always love Guy's classes, it really is yoga for life. However I am feeling, I know I will be able to participate fully and feel wonderful afterwards.

This class has a wonderful, rhythmic flow to it. At least once a week I do a YouTube barre ballet class, and Guy’s class has a rhythm that is almost dance like. It’s is first one of his classes I’ve taken, and I plan to try his other classes. There was one part I did not understand. In the tree pose, did he say to put the foot on the knee or above the knee? One of my first studio yoga teachers taught us not to put our foot on the knee during this pose so I never have. Are there different opinions on this? I plan to post this question in the forum for more responses. Thank you.

Hi there EmBe! I'm glad you enjoyed my class and you ask a great question. Contemporary yoga teaching tends to have many unfounded statements and beliefs about what is safe or not safe for your body. These are slowly being identified and removed from our teaching vocabulary, but in the meantime, physical yoga myths persist! One of these popular myths is that it is not safe to press your foot against the opposite knee joint in tree pose. An easy way to debunk this is to think about Lego blocks: if I've got two Lego blocks side-by-side, how can you get them to stick together? By connecting the two sides with another block! That's exactly what pressing your foot across your knee joint does -- particularly if you provide a corresponding resistance from your standing leg back toward the foot against your knee (like clicking Lego blocks together). Our bodies are much more resilient that we give them credit for -- I would suggest questioning such physical yoga rules ("myths"?!?!) whenever you hear them. Anyhow, great question and thanks for bringing it up! Happy practicing, Guy

Thank you for this prompt reply. The Lego comparison makes a lot of sense to me. Now that I think about it, I only remember one teacher, my first, telling the class this so it may have been just that teacher. I didn’t know much about yoga so I didn’t question much. I have a 20-30 minute drive to yoga classes, and since I’ve come to enjoy practicing with DYWM at home, I doubt I will go back to yoga studios after Covid-19. The classes I missed going to in 2020 were the summer Yoga in the Park classes and a non-yoga YMCA barre class.

Thank you ! A lovely gentle class to wake-up. I feel loose, energized, and happy. A perfect progression from Guy's 14-Day Slow Flow Challenge. I think I'll be doing this one often!
