Beginners' Yoga for Shoulder Strength

Beginner II

This is a great beginner strength and stretch sequence for the shoulders. Melissa guides you through proper alignment while strengthening the arms and shoulders in a wide range of movements. Filmed on the beach on a warm, overcast day, this class is sure to keep you focused.

Note: you may want a strap for this class.

Comment not for publishing! I think you may have accidentally tagged this as Intermediate 1 when it probably is meant to be Beginner 1. Both title and content/nature of this class are extremely accessible to beginners.

Nice shoulder and back opener for after a tough, weight workout.
Ending is a bit odd - corpse pose to namaste but overall , nice practice.

Beautiful practice as always, Melissa.
I woke up this morning with a pain in the front of my shoulder, probably the way I slept, so this was good and gentle, and your repeated reminders were excellent for me. It‘s what yoga has always been about for me. It‘s neither a competition down here on the mat, nor shame or blame for the way I look or feel. Namaste!

I'm having some shoulder and arm issues while on a long motorcycletrio and this practice was great to keep my shoulders moving before getting back on the bike.

super easy, & my shoulders feel so relaxed & great, I cay most of my tension in my shoulders & always need a practice focus on them just to relieve everything. thanks!

I have minimal shoulder strength and appreciate the multiple modifications presented in this flow. I didn't feel like there was anything wrong with me even though I couldn't do a bent knee push-up - you had a modification for that! Thank you so much. Now I can get stronger instead of injuring myself!

Enjoyed this practice, challenging but not too hard for beginners.

I enjoy Melissa's calming voice and her explanation of each pose is perfect for me! I really need to work on my upper body strength, so this video may become routine!

Great beginner video! Very calming but also great at building strength... for beginners.

Noteworthy for those who may not give themselves enough credit (ahem, me!)... this video will not be very challenging for those with some shoulder strength already. This video is for beginners! (I used these positions when I was aiming to build shoulder strength earlier). Not enough 'reps'. But a quick, short video nonetheless that does absolutely no harm! Enjoyed every moment of it :)

In agreement with another comment on the site, online yoga videos do not do enough justice. Some of the best teachers I have come across!

Doing this class as a part of the Absolute Beginners Program and it was great. I love how clear Melissa's instructions are, and how she encourages you to only go at your own pace and ability. Not enough stress on that in online yoga clases, in my opinion, and Melissa nailed it.

I would add to the tag info that you may want a STRAP for this class.

I love your voice, it helps keep me focused without being intrusive. Mildly challenging, which is great for my beginner status. Mild enough to not make me want to give up, challenging enough that my mind doesn't drift. Thanks!

This workout done in the most advanced way is a lovely workout for the shoulders. Pushups etc. I love 20-30 minute workouts when I'm in a rush. I especially like Melissa's voice and instruction!

I found this video to be perfect for me. I have bulky muscle that needs to be trained to do the nice long stretches/ poses. I have strength, but not trained for holding poses... yet. :) You made it very easy for me to transition into each new step while I'm learning the names of the poses and how to get into them. I have used commercial videos, but could never find one that worked for me and my style.

Thank you for posting the video online! I'm on a small island with limited yoga classes (only on sundays at night). It is very gracious of you.
