This is the first mindfulness guided meditation in a series of three. Although this is for all levels, in this video David teaches it as a "meditation for beginners", teaching you how to meditate beginning with the first step among many meditation techniques, establishing a focused mind. This is a great first step when learning about meditation and mindfulness - very similar to vipassana meditation - and will help you establish a strong mindfulness practice.

Hi David, I really enjoy all your classe, but I find really challenging meditating… As soon as I start I feel like a little kid, I get so unquiet, I get itchy everywhere, my back gets uncomfortable, my legs hurt, feels like I have ants under me :( I’m always very busy and I really want and need to learn how to calm my body/mind but don’t know how to get over these initial challenges? Thank you!
Well, I have had a long break and have had to restart the challenge again. Great instructions and very soothing relaxing voice and manner. Thank you.
This is the second time that I have followed this video. Now I am doing the challenge - thank you for making that available. Very relaxing and good instruction.
Your soothing voice and timing were very helpful. Top score for your guidance, but I need to find a better position. I sat comfortably (at first) cross-legged on 4-5 inches of blankets. The meditation went smoothly for a while, but toward the end I got distracted by the increasingly uncomfortable stretch in my legs and an intensifying ache in my lower back.
same for me too II tried to change my position without disturbing the meditation, with closed eyes.
Wonderful beginning meditation for me.
A wonderful tutorial/intro to focusing/mindfulness through meditation. David is wonderful how he explains mindfulness and meditation. While meditating, he is so helpful with bringing your thoughts back to the meditation. I highly recommend this practice and you can do it over and over again.
Hi David, I really enjoy your meditations and bought them quite some time ago. However it seems the first and second have switched places which makes you tell me to expand my mind first and then concentrate... No big deal as I view acceptance of the order as a challenge, but I figured you might want to know. If there is a chance of altering the order I am prepared to purchase the audios again. So much for acceptance, haha... Namaste
Thank you! Hmmmm... that sounds curious. I'm unclear what has been switched - is it the audio downloads or the videos on the website?
Thanks,
David
It is the audio downloads to Bandcamp. Unfortunately the first is about expanding the mind instead of focus which was a bit confusing at first... All the best, Annalena
Thank you, Annalena. We have fixed the issue with the audio downloads.
All the best,
David
Is day 2 through 4 the same video? Very calming.
What program are you referring to?
The mediation challenge. I signed up to have emails sent to me day by day. Day 1, 2, and 3 are the same.videos. Is.this correct ?
Just want to make sure I am not missing anything
Thanks so much
Oh yes, that's correct. You are meant to repeat the first meditation a few times before moving on. You're all good!
Ok great thanks for getting back too me. I am on to day 4 today.
This was so nice and unexpected experience! My very first meditation and with your help, David, I managed! I felt my breath coming slower and slower, my body really relaxed and warm, I even didn´t want to end it :) Such a pleasure it was :) Thank you for your help. I love your voice and instructions.
Thank you for getting me started. Meditation is really what I need right now against the stress from work. Nature resonates a lot for me, I loved this first class in the woods and your guidance while keeping silent moments for us to focus.
Amazing - after years of attempting to ‘meditate’, this helped me to calm my mind and focus.
Thank you David for posting these meditations- I miss your voice from Mar de Jade! What an epic retreat! Embrace the Edge is right! I love listening to your calm, soothing voice- it enables me to meditate so well. Thank you for all you and the other instructors offer us!
i learned beginner's vipassana before really yoga-ing and its occurred to me since that it's a bit like getting very very very good at one particular asana :p this class helped me soften the upper back after a long day at work
Thank you so much for this practice, it was perfect for an impatient and busy mind. I found the concept of becoming "softer" very helpful. This class had me surprisingly relaxed and wanting more.
for a well guided meditation. I like the idea of making less effort and becoming softer. Session 2 here we come
First time I felt comfortable meditating. It has always been difficult for me to sit still. Having the small area to begin focus surely helped. Shoulder tightness is much softer now. Looking forward to revisiting this and the other 2 new videos. Thank you David!
This a good icebreaker for a skeptic. Looking forward to the next part.
This class appeared exactly at the moment I needed it today. My key takeaway was not to force awareness, but to simply let it be - something I was able to take with me after the video ended. Thank you so much for this. I'll be thrilled to practice the next two parts of this series.
