In this third class of her four-part pranayama series, Rachel guides you towards a “box” breath, in which you inhale, hold, exhale, and hold in equal parts. Breath retention can be a profound technique for calming the nervous system and stilling the body, but remember: if you feel short of breath or anxious, then leave the counted practice and return to an easeful, natural breath. You may want a chair, bolster or pillow to sit on for this practice. The previous class in this series is Prana 2: Counted Breath and Partial Retention. The final class in this series is Prana 4: Nadi Shodhana Pranayama.

This was an interesting but good challenge. I appreciated learning the calm and equilibrium of the box breath. Is this mostly to help longer meditation? Thanks!
