Monthly Update - December 2020

Monthly Update - December 2020

As we enter the final month of the year, we are presented with the opportunity to reflect on the events of the past 11 months. I'm sure we all have a LOOOOONG list of disrupted plans, foiled intentions and even resentments regarding this most unusual of years. And while those are valid thoughts and feelings, are there not also little points of light interspersed amongst them? 'Diamonds in the rough' so to speak? Acknowledge these gifts and lessons and you will discover a sense of gratitude is present also.

Thanks to all of those who have filled out previous surveys.

We read all of your answers and adjust our plans based on them. Here's December's monthly survey:

DoYogaWithMe is thrilled to welcome Josh Chen to our teaching roster.

About Josh: "I discovered yoga during high school, when one of my friends invited me to a yoga class. While I found the class really challenging, as I was not very flexible or athletic at the time, it also felt like a very comfortable thing for me, like coming home. I purchased a two week unlimited pass that day and just immersed myself in the practice. A couple months later, I did my teacher training and the rest is history!

I completed my 200 hour training with Yyoga’s teacher college in Vancouver. While I draw from many different lineages, the majority and foundational training comes from Vinyasa and Vijnana lineages. Rachel Scott, Anila Lacroix, Kristin Campbell, and Kelly Colleen from Vancouver all played major roles in my early education. Since I started teaching, I have also become a physiotherapist, and my education and practice as a therapist inform my teaching - I apply anatomical and biomechanical concepts to add depth to my practices.
I teach anatomy-focused classes that inspire beautiful movement. My intention is to encourage my students to find both freedom and strength in their bodies. Many of my students say that I use colourful cues and interesting language in my classes, so I guess if you’re into that you should give one of my classes a try!
Yoga has taught me the value of stillness and slowing things down, as well as consistency and persistence. I think these values have all shown up in and improved my personal and professional life.

    Morning Stretch Flow
Slow Flow | 21 min | Beginner II

    Instructor: Josh Chen

Feeling a little stiff this morning? Join Josh for this speedy sequence and get loosened up and ready for the day! Move through the whole body and stretch the sleepies away.

    Prenatal Yoga: Breathe
Prenatal Yoga | 16 min | Beginner II
    Instructor: Julia Crouch
This brief practice from Julia focuses on the lungs, breathing and prana! It’s vitally important that we take the time to breathe and adequately oxygenate ourselves and baby.
    Vinyasa Yoga | 30 min | Intermediate I
                         Instructor: Jonni-Lyn Friel
This class is ideal for those experiencing wrist injury or sensitivity. Flow through this invigorating class from Jonni-Lyn that delivers a fun vinyasa practice without undue pressure on your wrists. Part Two of this series here.

    Restorative Yoga | 66 min | Beginner I
                        Instructor: Nyk Danu
It is easy to forget to take care for ourselves when we are busy caring for others. In  this nourishing and restorative practice, Nyk reminds us that 'You can not pour from an empty cup.'

Vinyasa Yoga | 34 min | Intermediate II
                         Instructor: Tracey Noseworthy
This intermediate vinyasa practice from Tracey is a full body flow that explores the dynamics of balance within the body.
    Vinyasa Yoga | 37 min | Intermediate I
                         Instructor: Jonni-Lyn Friel

To avoid strain on our wrists, Jonni-Lyn demonstrates a variety of modifications to this vinyasa flow. An interesting and challenging class for those without wrist issues as well! Part One of this series here.

Namaste! First I just want to say what a blessing this site has been for me during this pandemic - it has helped me make more time for my practice and offers such high quality teachers. I have my favourites but love delving into something completely new every once in a while. One thing that would be amazing to see is some kind of record log or analytics to view in one's profile - I would love to look back and observe the frequency/classes/number of hours I have done over a period of time. For example, in Montreal the bike-sharing system, Bixi, clocks all your rides and allows you to see total number of rides, cumulative kilometers driven, time used, calories burned, etc. It's very interesting, and rewarding, to see it all laid out. Thank you for all that you do!

Hello Nitya. Thanks for the kind words. We will have something like that available after our site upgrade is complete, which is slated to happen soon.
