The Pacific NorthWest has been experiencing much hotter weather than usual this summer. The heat has made it difficult to sleep, impacted water levels and exacerbated forest and brush fires in the region. This deviation from what we are familiar with is a potent reminder that we are connected to the environment and the world around us despite our efforts and innovations that insulate us from the natural dynamics. While uncomfortable, it is important to be confronted with the certainty that we do not exist in parallel to the natural world but are indeed intertwined and dependant upon it. Discomfort is a wise teacher should we choose to pay attention to the lessons that it offers us.
