Yoga Blocks
You will find yoga blocks in pretty much every yoga studio you go to. Blocks make yoga accessible to students of all levels, since they allow you to do many poses you wouldn’t normally be able to do, such as trikonasana and ardha chandrasana. They are extremely versatile, light, easy to store and are inexpensive to buy.
Do I Need a Yoga Block?
It is so incredibly rewarding to be able to move into a pose that has previously been too difficult. Blocks can do this for you - they can give you an added lift, allowing you to move into a pose that requires a significant amount of flexiblity. They are solid, light and easily incorporated into a class.
Which Blocks Are the Best?
Yoga blocks are made from foam, cork or wood. We highly recommend trying each one out at a studio before you buy. Most studios go with foam, simply because they are inexpensive, light and provide enough support. Cork have a nicer, natural feel, but are more expensive. Wood also has a more natural feel than foam, but are heavier and more expensive.
What Can I Use Instead of a Block?
It’s not that easy to replace a yoga block, due to its specific size, light weight and versatility. I have tried stacking a few thick books, like the ones shown here, but they are tricky to move around and are quite heavy.
