The Ultimate Shoulder Sequence

Beginner II

This slow, meditative Hatha yoga class is a thorough stretching of the shoulders and neck. You will be reminded throughout to return to an awareness of your body sensations as you flow through the poses. A 10-minute total body relaxation completes the class.

When I saw that the first class of this program was just neck and shoulder specific I almost didn't do it, because I was looking for a full body day. I'm glad I did, it was very relieving and felt amazing. I quite enjoyed the audio over his movements vs him speaking while he was doing the poses. Overall, I got a lot more out of this than I expected.

Wow, a thorough stretching. I really enjoyed it - very relaxing too. I don't usually enjoy yoga with music but this worked. Looking forward to day 2.

I found this class the best for neck and shoulder relaxation. Just one note, though the background music was excellent, I found it to be too loud, especially the flute portion.

This is a class I will come back to again and again. Did it for the first time this morning, but I think it's a class for the late evening - (will be a good one to do after strict push press and weight lifting !)
Due to an old knee injury (and nearly no more cartilage) I cannot kneel, so had to modify most of the class !

We love this class so much, David. Thanks for creating it. It helps my partner and I to recover movement and relax upper body and our minds. We've talked about how perfect the background music is for getting in the right state of mind. Today for the first time we read the final credits (usually still enjoying shavasana) and we found out you also created the music for this class which makes it even more amazing. Thanks again, Enrique and Silvina from Sydney :)

Focus on shoulders excellent, slow and measured. But sitting backwards on shins for this long took away some of the attention, so I modified.

This is a banquet of neck and shoulder openings and all are done in seated positions. David gives clear and calm instructions and cues. I loved the outdoor setting and at times I felt like I was out there too. At times I found it hard to kneel for such long periods so I modified and chose to do hero's pose supported on a block instead. This class really opened up my shoulders and loosened my neck, thank you!

Some of these classes by the ocean have the natural sounds of nature in the background. I prefer those to the ones with music.

Hi I am looking to do the 8 week program where this class features as day one with a break every other day. My question is, is it ok to do the program on a daily basis without missing a day? I am a beginner and like to do some yoga every day. PS I have just completed your 21 day meditation course and loved it, namaste X

I did this class every other day for several weeks after 2 months of PT had failed to take the pain away from a bad shoulder sprain. Fixed! And then I did it every other day starting a week after lumpectomy/sentinel node biopsy, and my surgeon was amazed at how quickly I got full range (pain free!) of motion back. It is a wonderful hour for anyone with shoulder issues.

Great comprehensive set for neck and shoulders, I loved the ingenuity of each posture! However, I felt that just as the fascia was about to release, you went onto the next move. I feel a little better, but I feel that it could have been significantly better if the extra time had been given. Thank you for all you do!

I suffer from degenerative disks in my lumbar and cervical spine, and I need to stretch constantly to keep my nerves from being pinched. This class is an excellent tool in my toolbox. Thank you very much!

I loved the focus on deep stretch in this class. I feel like it is preparing me for some more intense work in the next class. Can't wait! Also I loved the nature setting of the video and all the ducks flying around made lovely points of focus when trying to relax deeper into the stretch. Nice voice on the teacher too. Thank you!

I really like this class for getting a good stretch in the shoulders and loosening the whole upper body. The only thing I didn't care for was the background music - I found the intermittent drum beat quite distracting and it prevented me from relaxing mentally.

Love the classes on this site!

I do think no music is the way to go, that way the student can put a track on in the background that won't clash with their moment.

Cheers - AP

This is a wonderful and easy to follow class. It gently but deeply stretches the shoulders and neck and is also relaxing. The camera shows different angles to better understand the pose and David shows how to use the strap as needed.

Great class. Not able to sit in kneeling position for this long. Struggled to find alternate position. Also needed alternative for reverse prayer. Can barely get my ring and middle fingers to touch.

As a true beginner, I found this session very difficult. I finished as much as I could, I only hope to improve further in the future and be able to complete the entire session! For now, my knees, ankles, and hips are telling me no!

David, thank you for the incredible stretching. Your neck and shoulder stretch series has been really useful. If you could please make a 30 min video with everything that is in this 60 min video, that would be fabulous too. My upper spine, shoulder and neck have been happier because of you the past month! Thank you!

I love these deep stretches, and I know time is needed to really sink in, but I would LOVE a 20-30 minute version of this type of thing. This class, David's hips, hamstrings, and lower back class, and probably others I haven't found on the site yet, would be easier for me to do regularly if I could fit them in without a full dedicated hour. Maybe isolating them into segments, or quicker transitions would help, I'm not sure. Like others, I think this stretching is something I need, but I rarely have a full hour to dedicate to it. I could easily fit in 3 20-min sessions per week, though!

Thank you Dave. I do this class at least once a week. Its the perfect combination with all of Fiji's intense power flows, my desk job and carrying my 18 month old baby around. I love your website. Thanks for making it so affordable. I love lighting candles, setting my Mala on my nice Manduka Mat and doing my yoga sessions in the comfort of my own home, on my own time. THANK YOU!

Thank you for this! My back, neck, shoulders, chest, hips... everything is suffering from my desk job. I feel like it is slowly killing me, and I have learned to live with the pain by taking over the counter pain meds almost daily. I hate that, so I decided to look for a different alternative. My chiropractor suggested yoga, and this video is exactly what I need to do DAILY, in addition to your back strengthening videos. Just practicing this the first time, although a bit uncomfortable with all of the tightness and aches and pains, has given me hope. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You may have actually pointed me in a path that will save me! :)

A few years ago, I turned to yoga primarily to help with the TMJ issues I've had for many years. Whenever I fall out of practice for a week or two, the tension in my shoulders, neck and head begins to creep up and cause a lot of pain. It is so painful to begin practicing again that I often delay for several days even though I know it's the medicine my body needs. This class is gentle and thorough and provided the slow, attentive release my neck, shoulders and jaw so desperately needed. THANK YOU for this.. I am so happy I signed up for this course and will certainly return to this class again in the future.

Beautiful, relaxing practice that thoroughly stretches upper body and neck. I, too, had a bit of a hard time with all of the kneeling. However, I used a bolster between my legs to sit on and that helped immensely.

I got confused with left and right many times. He should always mirror our movements, his left is our right ect.. than you are really watching exactly what you are doing.
