This class is an exploration of Warrior 1, 2 and 3 - all the warriors! - designed for folks who are working within a bigger body. Although it isn't strictly neccesary for the class, a bolster can sometimes help you find ease in various seated or lying postures. Like the previous commenter, I have been a yogi for over a decade. Unfortunately, I had to make the heart breaking decisions to give up my practice for over a year due to very persistent, painful injury (Just from a trip and fall!). It happened at the conclusion of a very intense, but rewarding 8-week Ashtanga series class and I was in the best shape I’d been in for years. Luckily, I can spend time on my knees again with no pain and am trying to slowly get back in the groove. This was a perfect paced practice for me today.

I also happen to be a buxom lady like yourself, and really appreciate the modifications. I’ve been fortunate to have wonderful teachers in the past who gave great mods, but never had a teacher that looked like me. Fitness is not confined to a size range and I’m so glad that you have joined “do yoga with me!”

Thank you for this! I'm sorry to hear about your injury. It can be so disheartening, especially when you are really hitting your stride with your practice. It's so great that you have found your way back and are making the practice work for you. It is my absolute pleasure to represent so many people that want to enjoy this practice, but haven't previously found an instructor that looks like them. When I was a student, I really felt like I needed to look different if I was going to teach because I never saw my type of body represented. That is changing though, and I'm proud to be a part of it! Yoga for everyone! :)

Not plus-size but after a couple decades of yoga, achieving a strong Intermediate level, have been side-tracked by health issues so am working my way back and searching for routines which cater to my current limitations. Sense of balance, which was always problematic, is now worse with age and time (I also use a walker) Therefore, working on hopefully regaining stability as well as rebuilding core and leg strength. Had to hold on to furniture for the standing poses of this practice...which is SO frustrating albeit necessary...but with Helen's pleasant and very 'real' cueing, relatable visuals, and permission to be 'playful' (which I really need to work on!) I definitely see potential and came away looking forward to tackling this practice again. I've enjoyed DYWM for many years; Helen is a welcome addition.

Thank you for your lovely comment, and I'm so happy that you are allowing yourself to be playful (even if it's still a work in progress). My practice has definitely been an uphill climb and my ability to find some play is what has helped get me through. Grab that furniture and don't feel bad!! Balance is a tricky thing for so many people and it's magnificent that you are finding a way to make it work. As time passes and your practice strengthens, you will likely see a change in this (though I still hang on to my neighbors in class once in a while:). Keep enjoying yourself through all of the stages and thank you for allowing me to part of your yoga journey! I'd love to hear updates on how it's going. :)

Thank you SO much for adding yoga for bigger bodies! I haven't done yoga for years because I was so frustrated trying to do the other videos, which were a struggle for me to do. It just wasn't enjoyable anymore. This was a GREAT video for beginners, and Helen gives alternatives if something is hard or uncomfortable as well as permission to be human. Yoga is finally for EVERYONE! I can't wait for more videos - keep them coming!

Thank you so much for taking the time to not only try the class, but also to comment. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I filmed an entire beginner series in the Fall (a collection of short sequences that you can do alone or put the together for a longer practice), and the videos are slowly rolling out. You can search via my name on this site and check out those videos. Yes you can yoga!! No, you don't have to be tiny. Good for you for sticking with it and have so much fun trying the other classes. :)
