Yoga for 55+: A Beginner Flow
This yoga class for 55+ is perfect for beginners or anyone who feels they need a gentle yoga class. It's a step up from her class Yoga for 55+: Return to Practice, and it begins with Satiya slowing you down, breathing, meditating and letting go of the day. She makes her way toward gentle, modified sun salutations, followed by a hatha yoga flow that includes balancing poses, and openers for the spine, hips, legs, shoulders and groin. It may feel a little more challenging than the average Yoga for Seniors class, but it will likely be accessible to most who are in this age range. Satiya's pace and clear direction make this class easy to follow and a joy to participate in. Note: Satiya sits on a bolster to begin the class. You can use the same, a firm pillow or folded blanket.

This class is so much more than the sum of the parts of its title! Yes, I’m over 55, but I would have loved it at 40 too. And beginner? Okay, every beginner would learn from and be able to this. But as a yogi for more than 20 years, I can also appreciate doing this class to refine my own practice with “beginners mind.” And Flow... there is flow, and there is stillness. There are conscious movements and transitions, synchronized breath work, and Satiya encourages us to find release with “intention” and attention. (Note: I found it!)
BRAVO for this class, Satiya!
Thank you for sharing this practice. I am 200 hour cert and will be heading to Yandara in Baja for more training soon. I wanted to learn how an instructor might handle beginners and an older demographic (I'm an older demographic, too). Loved the pacing. Loved being able to have the time to breathe into a pose and work with muscle and breath awareness. Great pacing for any level. Great choices of asanas as well. And her voice is perfect. Namaste.
I am 58 but been doing yoga for twenty years. This is my new favorite class. Excellent in every way and Satiya voice is exquisite. Thank you
Hello and thank you for your generosity in sharing theses lessons. This is where I think I should start , since I am a beginner, but even if gentle, I had a hard time with some stretches as my knees hurt. Any ideas of how to improve my knees? I did stop the moment it hurt as sugegsted by you in other videos. I will also try the Return to practice next time. Namaste. Angelaviv
