This yin yoga class helps you release the deeper tension around the shoulders, arms and upper back. Sarah's gentle, encouraging guidance helps you get through the discomfort of holding a stretch for a few minutes, particularly the poses that are uncomfortable the moment you move into them. Thank you, good class.
What can I do to alleviate the stress on my hips and knees in all these positions? That's limiting my ability to stay in these longer Yin poses.
If you are on your back I think you need to bend your knees enough to ease the strain on your lower body. Hopefully Sarah-Jane can confirm this...
Hi Sarah, Props are great for longer holds. A rolled up blanket at the back of your knees would be the first suggestion, and a bolster under your hips could also be added if needed.
This was such a good yoga session for me. My shoulders were so tight. Thank you.
i do this class regularly such a good one
I love this class! Thank you!
i'm a physical therapist & neeeded & loved this so much!! i've primarily been an ashtanga practitioner, & am just now getting into yin... very excited as someone who also gets migraines. I think it will be a great practice for me. You were wonderful, Sarah. Thank you.
You're the first yoga instructor I've worked with who did an entire Yin practice just focused on the shoulders. It was wonderful. Thank you so much.
Namaste
This was a great fit for this 21 day challenge. On the pose just before we relaxed into heart-bed pose, can you tell me where my face should be? Should my forehead be on the mat, or should my cheek be on the mat? It was difficult for me to see this.
Thanks Sara. I am really seeing improved strength in my shoulders with this challenge.
Loved this yin practice for shoulders! Great postures & guidance with just the right length of tome for the holds. Thank you!
WOW! Great practice for the shoulders. I will share this with my husband. Wonderful if you weight train or do a lot of vinyasa yoga.
Thank you!!!!
Really great lesson, I really enjoyed it. The music was lovely but I do find that it inhibits true reflection and a deeper experience of introspection, as one part of you is listening to instructions and another part can't but help listen to the music. Hence, I find it a distraction. I will return to this though as the content of the lesson is really helpful. Thank you.
As someone with extremely tight shoulders, some of these poses were so deep they were hard to relax into for a full Yin experience, but this class got perfectly into some very tight pockets and I am feeling wonderful afterwards. Thank you Sarah!
Suffering chronic shoulder and neck pain due to modern life strains. Just discovered this lovely class, will try daily for a week and report back!
Here's a tip for an easy DIY bolster - tightly roll up an old yoga mat! Worked great for me.
As something with a chronic lung condition which left my shoulders slouched forward from all of the intense coughing, I have been using this practice to help me open up my chest and shoulders to help alleviate some of that tension that has built up over the last several years. I am now almost two years post lung transplant, and this practice, along with others here on this site, has finally allowed me to gain some relief and openness within my own body. Time and time again I have read about people feeling an emotional release at the end of a practice, and I am so blessed to say that I finally have felt that experience upon completion of this particular class today. It has become one of my favorites.
Thank you so much.
This really opened up tight shoulders. Beautiful choice of music too. Thank you Sarah.
I'm still recovering from a shoulder injury several years back and am usually reluctant when it comes to stretching my shoulders in any way. This was perfect for me! I need to practice with these postures more often and appreciate your clear and gentle guidance ♡
Sarah, thank you so much for this energizer. It's first thing in the morning, and I'm feeling on top of the world now. Look out world....here I come! :)
I simply loved this practice today. I had a particularly stressful day yesterday and slept very poorly. Since I carry most of my stress in my neck and shoulders, this practice helped me open up those areas and let things go (physically and mentally). Thank you!
I did this after surfing today. It was wonderful. Thank-you!
This is just what I was looking for. The perfect sequence for opening my shoulders and chest. Thank you.
Love the 30 day challenge even though I did not do them all, or sequentially, but has opened me up to new classes and teachers. Love Sarah Jane and discovering Yin postures. My shoulders feel so much better. I will be doing this one regularly. Also ,loved the lower spine one. Thank you .
One of the things I've really enjoyed about the 30 day challenge has been that it's introduced me to new classes, teachers and different forms of yoga practice. I had never done a yin class before now, and I'm so glad that Sarah Jane has taken the time to prepare so many thoroughly rewarding classes. Finding those openings in the chest and shoulders through longer poses has been so beneficial. thank you.
my tight shoulders and arms really enjoyed this and I will be adding this almost daily!
Simple Heaven
I have a huge knot in my shoulder/upper back and this stretched all around it. I will keep doing this one until it is gone. Thank you.
Very relaxing music and perfect for tight over worked shoulders. After this class my shoulders feel completely at ease. Thank you! Love the yin yoga!!!
After straining my shoulder last week at work, this class is the first thing to give lasting relief! My only regret is not trying it sooner! Thank you for the class!
Thank you Sarah Jane, this was the best class I've done to loosen up my horribly tight shoulders. I loved the meditative quality of the breathing and getting into the stillness of the poses was a new kind of challenge. I'll definitely be back!
This class is deceptively simple! I was surprised at how overwhelmed and emotional I got at times. I had to stop the video and take a few steps around the room on a couple of occasions. I'd like to come back to it on another day.
Love this practice allowing to release my shoulders from all the tension that I get built up. It's wonderful! Thank you!
Thanks, learned something new.
Thanks for a great intro back into yoga practice, very tight shoulders have been worked and stretched.
Yin has been the only yoga practice that has healed two joint injuries I suffered from. I have a new shoulder injury and was delighted to find this practice! I will get back to you in a month and let you know how it goes. Thank you so much!!
This was a beautiful practice - thank you so much Sarah Jane. I carry my tension in my shoulders. This class was just what I needed to release some of that tightness.
I love the yin yoga for hips and hamstrings and have been wishing for a class for the shoulders - Thanks !!!!
I really needed something specific for my shoulders from a very stressful work day at the computer, with bad posture I'm sure. lol I will be doing this practice several times a week. It really targets all the shoulder muscles and tissue. So grateful for this!
Just what I needed this morning! Lifting, hugging, and carrying a little 24-lb body all day long has left me very tight. This was my first "yin" class and I appreciated the info shared about a yin vs yan work out of yoga. I think i'm due for more yin these days! Looking forward to trying some of her other classes.
