In this class with Jonni-Lyn, we ask ourselves: What can our hips teach us? Can we open and go further, perhaps lifting into an arm balance? Or maybe we need to back off and give ourselves time and space. Through this practice we will start to open our hips with some sun salutations, standing poses and hip openers. We'll also explore an arm balance with these open hips and then move into our final relaxation and short seated meditation.

I didn't like this class at all. The warm-up part is way too short. It's important not to rush through the "kobras" right in the beginning of the class. Since part of this "in a hurry warm up" is to be done with closed eyes it's even more important to go a bit slow. Unfortunately Jonni-Lyn forgets sides in several of the asanas and the choreography of the hip-asanas lying down are a bit too much, seeing as this is an intermediate class. A yogi showing off feels "in your face suckers" to me... I genuinely feel this class don't belong in this otherwise excellent challenge.

I am sorry to hear that this practice was not a good fit for you, there is a style and a teacher that resonates with us and then there are those that do not. We can look at changing this to a more advanced class, which is good feedback to hear.

Hello,
I appreciate your honesty. You didn't like the class and that's ok. There are many classes that I attend, that I also do not feel are the right fit for me. I think the really wonderful thing about yoga and all the different teachers, is that we can find something that we feel is a good fit for us. This class was not a good fit for you.

It has taken me awhile to respond to this comment, as I wanted to reply in a neutral and compassionate way. In the end, this is why I practice yoga, so that it can guide me on the bumps in the road. I would like to very gently remind you, that behind the camera lenses, we are people. When I teach in person, people have an opportunity to speak to me and I can speak to them. I think sometimes in this digital world, we forget that our words still have weight or meaning. We are behind a screen and do not see the effect of our words, rather that we just send them out into the world and there is no repercussion.

Once again, I would like to very gently remind you, that behind the camera, we are people and that words and how we use them, has meaning.

I am on a public platform. Could I grow a thicker skin? Sure.
Except that I do not want to.
Yoga is the process of striping away our layers, our amour, so that we can come into this world more openhearted. More tender.
That's what I teach and that's what I do my best to practice, and I often get it wrong.
As we do. We are all human after all.

I am glad that you enjoy the website and that you enjoyed the challenge. We really do have some excellent teachers and people here.

Warmly
Jonni-Lyn

This is one of the most thoughtful, honest and powerful responses to a criticism I have seen online and it really resonated with me. Thank you for sharing your feelings so openly and thank you for all the time and energy you share with us on this site, it is really really appreciated.

You are an excellent teacher. What I like most about you is how yoga seems to help you manifest your best self in the world and how practice is key to maintaining equilibrium--both physical and mental. Thank You.

This practice begins with very rapid transitions, leaving little space for modifications if needed. This had the curious effect on me of creating A LOT of resistance for everything that followed. Also not as much in the hips as I expected (due to lack of modifications). Definitely a good lesson for my inner teacher!
