In the first class in Fiji's series on Yoga for Lower Back Care, Fiji spends time on how to activate the core and stabilize the body in order to protect the back and strengthen our natural support mechanisms. This is particularly important in a vinyasa flow, since poses like chaturanga and upward facing dog can be hard on the lower back if not done properly, but it's even more important in daily life when we're walking, running, lifting, reaching and working. The entire program, Vinyasa Yoga for Lower Back Care, can be found on our Yoga Programs page.

Fiji is an inspiration, but I don't think using it for lower back relief is accurate. It doen't give relief to the lower back if you have an intermediate pain to the back starting out.
Amazing class! I have tight hips, but that didn’t hinder me in any way in this practice. The juicy stretches and smooth transitions calmed me and my body down wonderfully
I am mostly a beginner II level practioner, and I found this class perfect in every way. Fiji’s directions are clear and detailed and each has a directed purpose. It challenged me and I could do all but one minor shape addition. I am in the program so it is a new goal. I feel well-worked well-taught and energized along with relaxed. Fiji is a master trainer.
This might be a good class to prevent lower back injuries or simply reduce stiffness, but it's not great for recovery from a lower back injury. Forward folding is very problematic when you have anything injured in your lower back, so I was surprised to see so many in the first 15 minutes. I had to stop the class because the forward folds were beginning to cause pain.
Stretching your hamstrings and hips while laying on the floor is a much safer way to release lower back tension. So if you're currently experiencing recurrent pain, I'd bookmark this for another day. Instead, try one of David's lower back stretch and strengthening classes.
