Kundalini Yoga Through the Chakras with Dawn Rabey

I really want to take this class. I saw the note about the pranayama and I have a question. I did the chronic stress class and had to stop for a week or two because I developed costochondritis, which is inflammation around the ribs. I think the pranayama may have caused it, as well as the downward dog which I read can also aggravate it. Do you have any suggestions for what I can do during the breathing exercises that it sounds like you will do in this class? I really don't want to risk getting this problem again. It was pretty painful, but mostly it kept me from doing yoga for several days when I was trying to develop a habit. Is there a breathing exercise that is less straining on that area that you would suggest I substitute?
