Fish Pose

The Sanskrit word, matsya, means fish. Matsyasana (or Fish Pose) creates a great expansion and stretching of the chest, stimulating both the heart and throat chakras, as well as relieving upper respiratory congestion and benefiting the heart. Additionally, the sinus are drained and opened from the inversion of the head and the thyroid and parathyroid glands are stimulated. You will also feel a stretching of the hip flexors, abdoman and the muscles between your ribs (intercostals). This is a great asana to improve upper back strength, which helps to improve your posture and flexibility.
