- How to do both concentric and eccentric backbends in a safe and liberating way
Backbending, or spinal extension, is one of 8 essential movements of the spine and is an important part of the asana practice. Backbends can liberate energy, expand a sense of open heartedness, and improve posture. Learning about how the spine can and should move in backbends allows us to incorporate this important set of poses in a way that is safe and sustainable. Like every other aspect of yoga, we have the ability to grow and evolve with mindful and intentional practice over time.
